The Challenge
Marvel Fusion is a Munich-based fusion energy company on a mission to build the world's first commercial fusion power plant. Founded in 2019 and backed by over 400 million USD in funding from Siemens Energy, leading venture capital firms, and public investors, the company brings together physicists, mathematicians, engineers, and corporate teams across a Munich headquarters and a smaller office in Denver, Colorado.
The growth has been steep. In two years, the team scaled from 55 to 126 employees, with a clear target of 160 by year-end. At that pace, the office quickly became the bottleneck. Historically, every department had its own area. Physicists and mathematicians, in particular, value stable, familiar surroundings to focus on complex work, and the layout reflected that. As headcount grew, more desks were added to each area, until the physical space simply could not absorb another table.
Adding capacity by buying new desks was not a viable answer. A single workplace costs around 2,000 euros to set up, and even at peak occupancy, the office is never fully booked on any given day. Hybrid work means employees choose when to come in, so paying for the peak meant overspending for the average. The smarter path was to use the desks Marvel Fusion already had more intelligently, in a way that respected how researchers and engineers prefer to work.
Why PULT?
As Office Managerin, Michelle ran a structured evaluation. PULT, Deskly, and DeskBird were each tested by booking the same desk in each tool and comparing the experience end to end. Three factors made PULT the clear choice.
PULT in Action
Marvel Fusion went live in October 2025 with a two-week pilot in the most flexible departments. Once the pilot succeeded, the rollout expanded across the company. Today, PULT runs natively inside Microsoft Teams, accessible from desktop and mobile, which has changed how employees plan their days. Many now check available seats on their phone during the morning commute, adjusting their plans before they reach the office.
For Michelle, the most valuable workflow is new joiner onboarding. Marvel Fusion welcomes around six new hires every month, and with every desk in active rotation, guaranteeing a starting seat used to mean walking through the office, asking team leads, and posting handwritten notes on screens. Today, she opens the PULT floor plan, selects the desks where new joiners will be onboarded, and reserves them for the first week. The seats disappear from the booking pool, the new hires arrive to a workspace prepared exactly for them, and the rest of the team books around the reservation.
A second benefit emerged that Marvel Fusion did not initially plan for. Because employees now share desks rather than own them, every workspace must be cleared at the end of the day. The Clean Desk Policy, supported by visual reminders in the PULT app, became a natural daily habit instead of a memo that needed enforcement. In an industry where confidentiality matters and external visitors regularly pass through the office, a consistently clean workspace has real operational value.
